Scott Keva James - Principal, The Now Device
Studio Instructor

A founding partner and one of 3 principals of Seattle’s The Now Device, Scott fills roles in project management, project creative direction, and technical direction. He designs and implements visual performances and installations, mixes live video, develops custom video mixing software and integrates digital media technology into all aspects of The Now Device’s work. His experience previous to The Now Device includes a Master’s degree in landscape architecture (MLA), graduate level teaching in landscape design and multi media, work experience in multi-media design and project management, and years of playing in so-so rock bands.

As a performer he is a visualist focused on live composition and live visual environments. Combining backgrounds in spatial design, music, theater, multi-media and programming he makes playable tools and moves live visual art out of and beyond the contraints of a film paradigm and towards its own space. In 2001 he joined the Spaceboat.tv collective where his work included performances at Seattle’s Experience Music Project and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. As co-founder of The Now Device, he has developed a rythmical and texture-oriented visual style using self-produced content, almost entirely shot by hand, processed and edited for maximum impact. Scott performs at and for local art organizations, on large corporate shows for The Now Device, at one-off club shows and parties, and spent nearly two years as the visual resident and then producer at Oscillate, a weekly eclectic electronic music night in Seattle. Most recently, Scott has been collaborating and performing with electronic and other musicians in New York, Washington and Ohio.
